FAQs
Plain answers to the questions families ask first.
Getting started
How do we get in touch?
Call (719) 408-0958, or send a message online.
Can we visit before we decide?
Yes. Tours are any day, by appointment. Call (719) 408-0958 to pick a time, or request a tour online.
Where is Prairie Pines?
At 101 E Lowell St, Eads, CO 81036.
How do we know if it is time for assisted living?
Most families notice a pattern rather than one moment. Everyday tasks like bathing, dressing or taking medications get harder, meals or bills start slipping, or there is a fall. Often the relative giving most of the care is worn out, too. When the help needed is more than family can reliably give, it is time to talk about assisted living. Our free Family Guide lists the signs and how to start that conversation. Call (719) 408-0958 if you’d like to think it through with us.
Who will we talk to when we call?
A member of our admissions team answers, talks through your questions and sets up a tour. Tours are led by our administrator, Sheri Mendez, or a senior member of her team.
What does assisted living here include?
Daily help with bathing, dressing and medications, plus three meals a day, housekeeping and laundry. Residents also get rides to medical appointments and hospice care when it is needed. Every room has its own bathroom.
Do you offer memory care?
No. Prairie Pines does not offer memory care or a secure unit. If that is the care your family needs, call (719) 408-0958, and we can talk it through.
Can staff help with medications?
Yes. State-certified medication aides (QMAPs) give medications on daily rounds. Before move-in, the resident’s doctor decides whether the resident manages their own medications or our staff give them.
Is there staff on site overnight?
Yes. Prairie Pines is staffed 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
What happens if my parent needs hospice?
They can stay right here. Prairie Pines provides hospice care, so a resident who needs it can remain in their own room with the people they know.
What if care needs change after moving in?
The monthly rate doesn’t change when care needs do. If a resident comes to need more care than assisted living gives, we talk it through with the family and help them find the right next place, such as a nursing home.
Daily life
The amenities and everyday lifeIs there a pool?
Yes. Prairie Pines has an indoor pool that residents can use any time. It is also the town’s public pool.
What does a normal day look like?
Breakfast is at 7:30, lunch at noon and supper at 5. Each morning brings exercise or a group activity, and the afternoons bring bingo three days a week and coffee hour on Tuesdays, when neighbors from Eads stop in. Evenings are the resident’s own.
What are meals like, and can they fit a special diet?
Residents have three meals a day and choose from a menu a week ahead, with another option at every meal. The kitchen offers choices such as sugar-free dishes, but we can’t guarantee a special diet.
Can family visit any time?
Visiting hours are 7 AM to 7 PM. Pets are welcome to visit during the day.
Can residents bring their own furniture?
Yes. Residents are welcome to bring their own furniture, pictures and TV.
Is there transportation to appointments?
Yes. We arrange rides to medical appointments, in town and out of town. A staff member goes along when possible, so visit notes and any medication changes come back with them.

Bring copies of every insurance card (dental too), a driver’s license or photo ID and the Social Security card. For care, bring a full list of medications (prescription and over the counter), a list of every doctor and the doctor’s form from the application. Don’t forget medical power of attorney papers and any advance directives, such as a DNR. Residents may also bring their own furniture, pictures and TV.
Are rooms available now?
Call (719) 408-0958 and ask. Our team checks openings with the administrator and can text or email you what is available, along with current rates.
Are rooms private or shared?
Prairie Pines has 16 single rooms and 4 larger rooms that can hold two residents. Every room has its own bathroom.
What happens before move‑in?
First comes an assessment with our administrator, in person or by video call. Then comes an application, which includes a form for the resident’s doctor to complete. Residents paying privately can often move in within a day or two of the assessment; Medicaid must be approved first.
Can someone stay for a short time first?
